The tunnel is open.

You don’t have to rush.
You don’t have to know.
You don’t have to walk alone.

If you are reading this,
you are already inside a tunnel.

Not mine.
Yours.

Sit for a moment

The Bench

There is a bench in this tunnel.

Not symbolic.
Not poetic.
A real one.

I’m sitting.

The Book

I wrote the first pages of this book in July 2025, on holiday in Croatia.

Wanting to share what was happening.
The words came easily, without effort or intention.
It felt like movement - light, almost joyful.

Two weeks later, back in the Netherlands, a routine check-up changed everything.
I was given a number. A horizon. A before and an after.

Only then did I understand: this book did not begin as a response to illness.
It began as an opening, written inside the tunnel

Holding on to Hope.

Now in a Wheelchair

Today I had an appointment at 14:30 with an MND-specialised physiotherapist to help me answer some of my questions.

Because of heavy traffic, I arrived very late - 20 minutes delayed - and on top of that, I got lost in the hospital. It can feel like a labyrinth when you don’t follow the “W route” signs from the entrance (completely my mistake).

Some very kind staff helped me find my way back, to the main entrance! There, I was told, “They will come and pick you up and bring you there.” A few seconds later, one of the welcome ladies appeared, pushing a wheelchair toward me. I was surprised and wondered: Is it that obvious by now?

Friends of the Tunnel

This book did not travel alone.
It was carried - quietly - by people who read, listened, and stayed.

Some spoke of being reminded that everyone carries something.
Others felt invited to pause, to feel, to return to presence.
A few recognised the same spark - from the court, from the page - still alive.
Many named light, hope, resilience.
More than one admitted they smiled and cried at the same time.

These words were not written for praise.
They were received with care.

What follows are not reviews.
They are traces of connection - from different countries, different lives - meeting inside the same tunnel.
